The Story Behind Vineyard Ease™
Meet the Founder
Before I tell you more about Vineyard Ease™, I want to tell you a little about the woman behind it.
I’m Dr. Shinair Francis, and my love affair with Martha’s Vineyard began around 2010.
What captured my heart wasn’t just the beaches or the island’s beauty. It was watching my younger brothers experience a level of safety, freedom, and independence that meant everything to me.
Eventually, I started bringing my young niece and her friends. They were in elementary and middle school then. Today, they’re college graduates with full-time careers, pursuing nursing school, and entering their sophomore year of college!
We’ve been coming every summer since 2010. Yes, even during COVID. Don’t judge me! 😂
Some of my favorite memories are of bringing my grandmother to the Vineyard. She sat on Inkwell Beach collecting rocks to decorate her home. We still have those rocks. 🤎
And she was SO proud to tell her friends that her granddaughter had taken her to “Martha’s Stewart” for the summer! 😂
Those memories mean more to me now than I could have ever imagined.
In 2025, my world changed.
Within eight months, I lost my grandmother in April, my mommy in November, and my beloved aunt in December.
Three generations of women. Three enormous losses.
Suddenly, I was navigating three family estates, helping care for the children they left behind, and carrying the responsibility of preserving our family’s legacy.
I had to dig deep.
By summer 2026, I desperately needed somewhere to put my grief. And Martha’s Vineyard had always been my happy place.
But after experiencing an incredibly packed, booked, and busy August, something shifted in me.
I wanted to return to what had made the Vineyard special to me in the first place: community, connection, freedom, and rest.
And from that grief, love, and desire, Vineyard Ease™ was born.
For those who don’t know, I’m an educator by profession, the owner of Educator Empowerment Center, LLC, and the founder of Sisterhood of Leaders in Education (S.O.L.E.). Much of my professional life has been devoted to building community, empowering people, and creating meaningful opportunities for connection.
In August 2024, I hosted my first Vineyard forum through my company, bringing people together to discuss how to educate Black children amid an increasingly anti-Black political climate. That experience introduced me to the possibilities of intentionally curating meaningful gatherings on the island.
Vineyard Ease™ extends that work, but it’s also deeply personal.
It’s my expression of grief, joy, family, legacy, and community.
It’s a chance for us to gather beyond the traditional August season, celebrate our culture, make new memories, reconnect, and simply BE.
I don’t want Vineyard Ease™ to be just another event series. I want it to feel like something we’re building together.
